The drinking water reservoir supply in Hunua Ranges Regional Park has doubled after the Citycare Water Auckland Small Waters Team recommissioned an existing water tank.
This is great news for visitors to the park in South Auckland, as getting enough water in dryer months can be challenging for isolated communities and parks such as this.
Citycare Water’s kaimahi are dedicated to providing safe water for life no matter where you live, work and play, and this project is an example of what can be done every day for people in more remote areas.
The water tank had been decommissioned due to damage caused by weather events.
The team's in-depth inspection and tests for leaks showed it could be reinstated after thorough cleaning and resealing work.
Water supply to the recommissioned tank comes from an underground aquifer, which is pumped via a bore through our recently upgraded water treatment plant.
Its operation will greatly benefit the regional park, particularly considering the nearby Kōkako Lodge and obstacle course, popular with many school and community groups.
The Small Waters Team is also working on upgrading the supply lines to and from the water treatment plant and upgrading the wastewater disposal fields in the area to better accommodate the expected increase in visitor numbers in the coming years.
