It's important to highlight the anniversaries of our community connections, and it’s with pleasure that we shout out to our team in New Plymouth to celebrate 20 years of service to the New Plymouth District Council.
Congratulations to everyone for this long-term partnership to provide Safe Water for Life for residents in the district, which covers more than 2,300 square kilometres from the Mokau River in the north to the Hangatahua (Stony) River in the south and inland as far as the summit of Mount Taranaki and Tariki.
Three waters maintenance for the district means our teams of everyday heroes are out in the community taking care of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater in the New Plymouth urban area and the towns of Waitara, Inglewood, Urenui, Okato and Oakura together with a number of smaller settlements, including Lepperton, Egmont Village and Onaero.
Central Regional Manager Tony Ewens is very proud of his team. The first employees started on 26 January 2004, and now the team is 50-strong. The photo shows our team at the start of our New Plymouth District Council contract in 2004, and four of these men remain today.
Citycare Water teams often tackle high-risk connections with extra safety precautions, such as the recent installation of two rising wastewater mains for Watercare in Drury South.
A new 80-hectare village in Karaka, South Auckland, with 850 homes to be built over the next eight years, will benefit from the latest smart meter technology in its water infrastructure.
